7 NMI officials receive Patriot Award

SEVEN CNMI government officials last week received the Patriot Award for the support they provide to their employees who are National Guard members or Reservists.

Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Guam-CNMI State Chairman Ret. Lt. Col. Rey Llaneta, Vice Chair Ret. Maj. Gen. Benny Paulino, Volunteer Support Technician Angel D. Vibar, Guam-CNMI Area Chair Rita A. Sablan, Ed.D., Ombudsman Joann Aquino; and Employer Outreach Coordinator Rose Igitol met with the awardees at their offices.

Office of Saipan Mayor’s Dog Control Program Coordinator Martin Pangelinan received the Patriot Award on May 4 at the Saipan Mayor’s Office. He was nominated by a servicemember, Stephanie Camacho, who also works in the mayor’s office.

Receiving the same award was CNMI Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration or OSHA Program Manager Timothy Asaivao who was nominated by Servicemember Jerome Ignacio.

Customs and Border Protection Port Director Jeff Hofschneider Jr., and supervisory officers Noel Deleon Guerrero, Bryan Chang and Ferdinand Mallari also received the Patriots Award. They were nominated by Servicemember Tanya Songsong-Diaz.

The Patriot Award is given to supervisors or bosses of employees serving in the National Guard or Reserve for the support provided directly to the employees “through a wide-range of measures including flexible schedules, time off prior to and after deployment, caring for families, and granting leaves of absence if needed.”

ESGR Ombudsman Joann Aquino received the Guam-CNMI ESGR State Committee Volunteer of the Year Award for the year 2021.
