DECM bagged their fourth win in the Masters Division of the Saipan Centennial Lions Club Basketball League by overpowering SMEC 102-74 Saturday at the TSL Sports Complex.
DECM’s strong start was the key to their victory.
In the opening quarter, DECM were powered by three key players. Pangelinan shot the lights out from the long-range, knocking down four triples while team mates Galulu and Gatdula contributed six points apiece to give DCEM a commanding 26-11 lead.
SMEC picked up the pace in the second quarter as Guidote, Claveria and Ibanez delivered a total of14 points.
SMEC also managed to cut down their opponent’s production, but DECM stayed afloat as they continued to drain shots from beyond the arc with four three-pointers made.
In the third canto, DECM’s Tabora joined the bombardment with three triples of his own as his team maintained a comfortable distance, 67-46.
Although SMEC’s biggest run came during the final quarter with Ibanez and Banting at the front line, scoring 8 and 12 points, DECM’s Pangelinan continued to deliver from the three-point line with seven made shots to lead his team to an emphatic 102-74 victory.
NAPA vs MDC
NAPA remains in second place in the team standings after earning their sixth win by outlasting MDC 75-71.
Following an even first quarter, NAPA’s defense started to affect MDC’s performance.
NAPA used each successful stop to their advantage and turned it into an offensive play on the other end. Along with proper ball movement, each NAPA player was able to contribute to the run as their team seized the lead, 44-34, by halftime.
MDC tried to stay alive by banking on the speed and scoring prowess of Sedillo, but the balanced work of the NAPA players was more than enough to maintain their lead and clinch the win, 75-71.
