Buildings B, F & G of the school were found to be in critical condition and posing danger to students using them.
A federal Community Development Block Grant was earlier earmarked for the school, but this was later allocated to the Koblerville soccer field project.
Earlier this month, Fitial then met with education officials and agreed to find ways to reprogram the funding needed by GTC.
“Governor Fitial…guaranteed that he would, within four months time [by June 2009], restore the full amount of reprogrammed funds for GTC from the $1.2 million [allotted for] PSS projects. These restored funds would come from the under-runs of other [federally] funded projects which have been or will be closed out within the next few months,” said Charlotte DLG. Camacho, the acting principal of GTC, in a letter to Education Commissioner Rita A. Sablan.
Camacho said $536,500 will be used for the repair of the GTC buildings and an additional $175,000 will be spend for collateral equipment like desks, chairs, among other things.
She said time is of essence.
“Our goal is to complete all work during the 2009 summer intercession so as to minimize the construction hazards and disruptions to the students during the school-year,” she said.
