Jesus Iguel who finished first in many events during the 2008 McDonalds’ All-Schools Championships won the annual NMA Athlete title for 18-and-under Boys Division.
He was the fastest in overall time in 100-meter run with 11.24 seconds and in 200-meter with 23.54 seconds. He also jumped the longest stretch with 5.99 meters and threw the farthest in javelin setting the mark 39.5 meters away.
In 2008 Oceania Under-18 and Open Area Championships, Iguel was the second fastest among NMI sprinters in the Men’s Open although he finished 23rd among 29 runners from different Pacific regions.
Jenequa Benavente and Jacque Wonenberg shared the title in the 18-and-under Girls Division.
Benavente hurled the farthest distance in McDonald’s discus throw reaching 28.22 meters, shot put reaching 9.05 meters and placed second in javelin throw with 23.35 meters.
In 2008 Oceania Under-18 and Open Area Championships, Benavente won silver medal in discus throw and bronze in shot put and hammer throw.
Wonenberg was the only NMI athlete who won a gold medal in the 2008 Oceania Championships, earning 3,623 points in Heptathlon. She also won bronze medals in long jump and triple jump.
In 2008 McDonald’s All-Schools Championships, she won first place in javelin throw, high jump and long jump. She also led the 2008 All-Schools 3,000-meter Cross Country Championships.
In eight-and-under Girls Division, Whispering Palms School’s Negahr Rastguiy who finished first in McDonalds’ 800-meter and 1,500-meter runs was named NMA athlete.
Maxten Doone who ran the fastest in 200-meter and threw the farthest softball in McDonads’ won the title in Boys Division.
Gabrielle Race also of Whispering Palms School was 2008 NMA athlete in 10-and-under Girls Division. She was the first placer in 400-meter, 800-meter and 1,500-meter runs, and led the 2008 All-Schools Cross Country Championships’ 1600-meter run.
Jesse Brel of Kagman Elementary School who went fastest in McDonald’s 100-meter, 200-meter and 800-meter runs is NMA athlete in 100-and-under Boys Division.
In 12-and-under Girls Division, Ilia Corella of Whispering Palms won the NMA Athlete title. She was the fastest in 200-meter and 400-meter of McDonald’s All-Schools Championships.
Angelo Jones was last year’s NMA athlete in 12-and-under Boys. He finished first in McDonald’s 800-meter, 1500-mter and 3000-meter race and was fastest in his age bracket in the 2008 All-Schools Cross Country Championships’ 1600-meter run
Lia’mwar Rangamar won the title in 14-and-under Girls Division. She set the NMI age group record to 30.96 seconds preliminary time, placing first in the 200-meter in McDonads. She also went first in 400-meter and threw fastest in discus and javelin throws.
In 2008 Oceania Championships, Rangamar won bronze medal in Heptathlon scoring 2,187 points.
In 14-and-under Boys Division, Damart Teregeyo and Brandon Philip both of Hopwood Junior High School are both winners of 2008 NMA Athletes.
Teregeyo hurled to the farthest point the discus and the metal ball in McDonald’s All-Schools.
Phillip reached the finish line first in the 100-meter, 200-meter and leaped the farthest distance in long jump.
Yvonne Bennett was the NMA female athlete in the Open Women’s Division and Tyrone Omar the male athlete in the Open Men’s Division.
Bennett set the CNMI record of 13.04 seconds in the 100-meter and 26.94 in 200-meter runs during McDonalds’ All-Schools.
In 2008 Oceania Championships, she became NMI’s fastest sprinter recording 12.99 seconds in the 100-meter, 61.83 in 400-meter and 26.65 in 200-meter sprints. These records made her the fastest woman in Micronesia.
Omar became the NMI’s fastest sprinter and Micronesia’s second fastest when he dashed through 100-meter stretch in 11.28 seconds.
The 2008 McDonald’s All-Schools Championships Outstanding Athletes are Rastguiy for eight-and-under Girls Division and Doone in Boys; Race in 10-and-under Girls and and Brel in Boys; Corella in 12-and-under Girls and Joushua Trinidad in Boys; Rangamar in 14-and-under Girls and Philip in Boys; Bennet in 18-and-under Girls and Iguel in Boys.
