Boys AMP beat Underdogs in P5 Hoops & Vibes hoop tourney

BOYS AMP emerged victorious in one of the four opening games of the P5 Hoops & Vibes Basketball Tournament on Monday at the Kagman Community Center basketball court.

The match between Boys AMP and the Underdogs was a nailbiter in the beginning as both teams excelled offensively and defensively.

The Underdogs drew first blood with a triple by Derek Sasamoto but this was quickly answered by the back-to-back buckets of Boys AMP’s Austin Diaz and Myles Techur.

The Underdogs’ Nate Abandan and Sasamoto then drained two consecutive triples, but once again the Boys AMP regained the upper hand thanks to the two triples by Diaz and Andrew Aldan.

Toward the end of the first half, the Underdogs’ momentum started to sputter as Boys AMP applied more defensive pressure, forcing turnovers that were then turned into offensive plays to give Boys AMP the lead, 17-12.

In the second half, the Underdogs tried to get back in the game but they failed to fend off  Boys AMP’s onslaught as Jon Diaz, Deshawn Adelbai and Austin Diaz expanded their team’s lead en route to victory, 39-22.

Winner’s circle

Joining the winner’s circle were the K2 Ballers who defeated the Homies, 49-33.

The K2 Ballers exploded in the opening half with Dikito firing 10 points to give his team a 37-14 lead.

But the Homies did not go down without a fight. In the second half,  each of the team’s players on the court contributed much needed points.

The K2 Ballers, however, matched the Homies’ productivity and maintained a double-digit spread to secure the win, 49-33.

The other teams that earned their debut victories were the Young Dooms who beat Irish Spring, 46-40, and the Yutu Bangers  who took down the 670 Trollerz, 41-36.
