Gas prices up by 15 cents, again

The move came a day after Mobil recalled its 15-cent price hike even though the price of crude oil remained below $40 a barrel.

The two giant oil firms did not issue any prior announcement before making the latest price hike.

Their retailers also imposed the price change simultaneously unlike in the past when one oil firm would first implement the increase followed by the other.

Motorists were again surprised by the sudden fuel price hike even as prices of oil in the international market continued to drop.

According to the American Automobile Association which regularly monitors the prices of fuel, the average price has increased 35 cents a gallon since the start of 2009.

In its Web site, the AAA said less gasoline is being consumed as fewer miles are being driven and refineries are producing less oil yet the prices continue to increase in the pump.
