Fitial said Tenorio’s decision to run as an Independent candidate for the Saipan mayoral election is a betrayal of his commitment to serve the ruling Covenant Party.
“I want my cabinet to be loyal. I told them I would choose people to help me run this administration who are competent, ethical and loyal. So, when he decided to become not loyal, I gave him my respect. He wanted to run as an Independent for mayor,” said the governor during a media conference yesterday.
The governor, a long-time Republican, founded the Covenant Party in 2001.
“It was just a gesture of respecting his decision,” the governor said, referring to his decision to fire Tenorio.
Capt. Dolores San Nicolas was appointed acting Corrections commissioner.
