McPhetres ‘confused’ but will continue to attend NMC board meetings

“If they will not call me to attend then I will not,” McPhetres told Variety, as she added that her work is voluntary.

The former NMC president said she is “very confused” as the legal question regarding her resignation has yet to be resolved.

Press Secretary Charles P. Reyes Jr. said Gov. Benigno R. Fitial will not re-appoint McPhetres.

“There was no resignation; there is no vacancy for regent McPhetres’s position,” Reyes said, adding that she is still a member of the board of regents.

He is hoping the regents will reconsider their position because the governor didn’t receive McPhetres’s resignation letter.

On March 13, the regents confirmed and accepted the resignation of McPhetres during a special meeting.

Board Chairman Charles V. Cepeda said the resignation of McPhetres was immediately effective after the board received it.

He added that the governor can always re-appoint McPhetres.

Fitial, in a letter, informed Cepeda that McPhetres is still a member of the board because her “resignation was not actually tendered, served, or effectuated.”

Cepeda said they are now conferring with the board’s legal counsels.
