The breakthrough could be used in a number of Pacific countries susceptible to outbreaks of mosquito-borne infections like Ross River virus and dengue fever. Fiji, Vanuatu, Palau and Samoa have seen high numbers of dengue fever cases this year.
Associate Professor Corey Bradshaw, from the University of Adelaide, said the model would help mosquito control months in advance.
