KEITH Longuski and Kaithlyn Chavez shared the spotlight in the 10K category of the Saipan Half Marathon on Saturday.
One of the island’s top 10K runners, Longuski finished first in the men’s division by clearing the course with a time of 00:40:06.
“It was a beautiful run — the weather cooperated, no sun,” he said.
The 10K course was from American Memorial Park to the G4S Security office on Beach Road in Oleai and back.
Longuski said he was glad that the Saipan Half Marathon was back after a two-year hiatus. “It’s always like a big event…and it’s nice to see the running community coming together as one,” he added.
In second place in the men’s division was Dev Bachani with a finish time of 00:40:38 followed by Michiteru Mita in third place with a time of 00:45:19.
Strong wind
In the women’s division, Kaithlyn Chavez finished first with a time of 00:46:54.
She said running against a strong wind was a new challenge for her. “I went for the 10K because I wanted to get a faster time,” she added.
Chavez is a multi-sport athlete who is also into soccer, athletics and other sports.
In second place in the women’s division was Heather Brook with a time of 00:46:59 while Lydia Tan clinched third place by clocking 00:54:52.
