Babauta to seek 9th term in House

In an interview on Wednesday, Babauta said he considered the desire of his family and Precinct 2 constituents to see him continue his job in the House.

Having already served eight consecutive terms, Babauta is among the longest serving members of the House.

He said will remain focused on legislation that will enhance the CNMI’s economic growth.

He said he will also continue to address the delivery of vital public services to CNMI residents.

Babauta said he has met with the Precinct 2 Covenant Party club,  key supporters and family, who all suggested that he seeks a ninth term.

He said he will continue to support the Covenant Party’s platform, and face the challenges of the CNMI’s declining economy.

According to Babauta, he will continue to work hard to find solutions to the island’s utility problems while being mindful of the other issues affecting the entire CNMI.

Babauta, who served as speaker from 2006 to 2008, expressed optimism that the CNMI economy will recover.

He said he will continue to push legislation that will make doing business in the CNMI simpler for investors while taking into account the protection of the islands’ fragile environment.
