Assault and vandalism charges filed against Rota resident

ROTA resident Javille Manglona was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery, simple assault, and vandalism for an incident that occurred on Aug. 18 at Sunshine Variety Shop in Sinapalo.

Since he had not yet been air-transported from Rota, Manglona, 34, appeared via video conference for a bail hearing before Superior Court Judge Joseph N. Camacho on Aug. 20 on Saipan. At the hearing, Manglona was represented by Assistant Public Defender Emily Thomsen, while Assistant Attorney General Heather Barcinas appeared for the government.

Judge Camacho set Manglona’s cash bail at $15,000 and remanded him to the custody of the Rota DPS. Manglona was scheduled to be transported to Saipan on Aug. 21.

The defendant was ordered to return to court on Aug. 27 at 10 a.m. for a preliminary hearing and on Sept. 15 at 9 a.m. for arraignment.

According to the complaint against Manglona, investigators reviewed security camera footage showing him damaging his vehicle with a cement block, pickaxe, and machete. The footage also showed Manglona pouring gasoline into his truck bed and entering the store while armed with a metal tailgate cap, chasing two individuals before being subdued by other witnesses.

Additionally, the investigation revealed that Manglona caused damage to a Bank of Saipan ATM located outside Sunshine Variety Store, including breaking the screen, as well as creating holes in the drywall near the ATM.
