From less than a hundred early last year, the CNMI now has over 250 reservists and active duty personnel.
Sablan said an average of 25 to 30 men and women are joining the military service every month.
The Army Reserve Center, he said, is doing all it can to recruit people who want to serve their country.
The Army Services Vocational Aptitude Battery Test is conducted once a month.
Now, Sablan said it is available three times a month.
Even 11th graders can now join the military with their parents’ consent, he added.
From March 19 to June 23, the Army Reserve Center will be offering a basic skills course in mathematics and reading for people interested in joining the military.
An initiative of Sablan and Lt. Col. Edward Camacho, the course is also open to reservists and active duty personnel who want to reclassify themselves for different military occupational skills.
Classes are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 4:30 p.m., to 7:30 p.m., in Room 114 of the Army Reserve Center in Puerto Rico.
The course is for reservists and Department of Defense civilians but the remaining slots will be given to family members who are interested.
Each class takes three hours per session for a total of 80 hours to be completed in 13 weeks.
The course is free and is provided by the 9th Mission Support Command based in Hawaii.
