If these individuals have lived 10, 15 and 20 years in our homeland, what have they been doing to secure their well-being and future status?
It further supports our concern that our labor system has, for many years, prioritized guest workers over U.S. citizens and other residents in terms of local employment. The intent of the federal control of our immigration system is NATIONAL DEFENSE and all these questions about uncertainties have been addressed clearly in every aspect by the interim federal regulations.
We must not forget that there have been warnings in the past regarding our broken down labor and immigration system. No elected CNMI government official lifted a finger to correct these mistakes that allowed nonresident workers to take advantage of, and benefit from, a flawed system well over two decades.
Today everyone is reacting negatively and panicking about something that they have been warned about in the past.
Governor Fitial is suing the federal government about something that has not taken place. His lawsuit is based on FEAR of change.
Rather than continuing these outcries of unfairness and uncertainties we encourage everyone to avail themselves of, and apply through, the administrative process of a federally controlled immigration system for time is of the essence.
