PPUC Board of Director Chairman Kione Isechal in a phone interview said that power was needed to be shut down for maintenance of the engines.
The power outage lasted for two hours, but the schedule was different from areas in Koror and Babeldaob.Earlier a power rationing has to be implemented because of a broken down engine at the Aimeliik plant.The engines are about 25 years old which needed replacement, but lack of funds prevent PPUC from securing a new one.Isechal said there are four units at the Aimeliik plant.He also said that power outages may continue because of the maintenance work PPUC has to implement on the engines.
