Leora Ngirablosch, who has been coaching the team when the students were still in third grade, said the children were very impressive during the competition.
Ngirablosch said the fifth grade students are from Corin Rengiil’s class.
The San Antonio team that participated in the competition on Saturday at Marianas High School was composed of Christine Aninzo, Annabel Manzo, Rona Rojos, Raynalyn Alarca and Rhea Banedos.
San Antonio’s team also won gold medals when it competed on Guam on 2006.
Ngirablosch is hoping they can raise enough money to send the team to Guam.
In the past two years, the San Antonio team was not able to compete on Guam due to lack of funds.
Organized by the National Forensic League Board, Saturday’s event drew the participation of about 400 kindergarten to sixth grade students.
There were 800 entries for the various contest categories — dramatic, humorous interpretation, duo, impromptu, choral speaking and reader’s forum.
Aninzo said the competition was very challenging because many teams participated.
“But it was challenging and rewarding,” Manzo said.
Rojos said they had to compete with a lot of talented students.
Banados and Alarca described this year’s event as “very competitive.”
Ngirablosch said the competition taught students how to speak in public and boost their self-confidence.
