Letter to the Editor: Who is the new Jesse Lujan?

Attempts to compare Rector to Lujan are done to discredit the freshman senator, who has been fighting for working families even before he got elected. I am quite certain he will continue the fight even if he is out, eventually at some point.

Former Senator Lujan is a nice fellow, and actually, if there is anyone who is more like him, it is Sen. Telo Taitague, author of a bill that would make Guam Power Authority more transparent — whatever that means.

You can always score points when you go up against the utilities in this environment of high priced crude and therefore higher electricity prices.  The good senator claims folks came up to her during the election process and she could not answer them accurately.  Well, that is because she is apparently not well-versed on how rates are set and how they fluctuate.

I also notice Senator Taitague is averse to voting for anything that a Democrat introduces, such as the recent amendment process of Bill 51.

When Sen. Eddie B. Calvo moved some of the computer equipment to Senator Taitague’s office, did he also take her under his wing and told her to “follow the GOP lead,” as it were?

In this regard, former Senator Lujan, with his various shortcomings, as we all have from time to time, seems to me to be much more of an independent thinker. He went after the airport folks in the same way that former Attorney General Douglas did.  You can see Guam where the “power centers” rest — the autonomous agencies that think they are “powerful.”

Scoring points with the public is great and all, but there is little these utilities can do in the present time to offset higher prices.  In fact, they are even catching up on payments from the Gutierrez years.
