In statement yesterday, NMIRA president Arnold J. Mesa apologized to Docomo’s James Lee for the temper that one of their members demonstrated during a recent game.
He said temper is a man-made disaster so every individual requires training that develops self-control during competitions.
Mesa however insisted that Lee’s actions against the referee is not appropriate so, it should have been sanctioned right away, thus, the call of technical foul was right.
Citing reality of the “human society”, Mesa said it’s all about rules and it always wants us to be on the very top, one mistake you will be take.
The hard part is that adults should not be ignorant of rules, so referees and umpires, he said are the products of rules.
During intensity game tournaments he said no competitors or coaches will even attempt to flop a referee or an umpire.
“We are in a sports place in a hostile environment and complaints are natural,” he said.
He added that team quality practices should have made good results in avoiding frustration and chaos among players.
Mesa outlined some rules on the three segments:
I. It is necessary to have skillful players – high level competitors call medal recipients. A Player must learn to play the game with toughness and tenacity understanding the difference between aggressive play, and not rough play.
Play to win. The salt and pepper ingredients the intention, the spirit, of cool and collective at all times, playing the game of good sportsmanship. A human’s attitude will lead to either good or bad.
II. Be imaginative. Coaches not teaching today most likely we will get beaten tomorrow.
III. We need to be competent referees. Each Referee has to remain calm during the game and refrain calm all emotional outburst, referees must calm the quite force on the court. The authority of the officials is not base on the power granted them by the rules but in their self – confidence, and their behavior during the game. If officials show consistency, integrity, involvement, and spontaneity, the game will flow without major problems however, if the officials intend to apply the words but not the spirit of the rules, it is possible that they will create artificial barriers, preventing the game from flowing freely, and causing unwanted effects. The official need to keep in mind that they have at their disposal a set of infractions for each action during the game.
