SPC’s Director-General Dr. Jimmie Rodgers said he was very pleased to announce the appointment of ‘Utoikamanu.
She is currently the permanent representative of the Kingdom of Tonga to the United Nations in New York and also ambassador to the United States, Venezuela and Cuba, and high commissioner to Canada.
‘Utoikamanu has represented Tonga and the interests of Pacific Island countries and territories internationally and regionally and is strongly supportive of SPC’s role in the region, particularly in relation to fulfilling the aims of the Pacific Plan.
She has a master’s degree in commerce from the University of Auckland and offers SPC knowledge and key skills in issues relating to international diplomacy, the Millennium Development Goals, human rights, organizational management, governance, economics and sustainable development.
In welcoming ‘Utoikamanu’s appointment, Rodgers noted that SPC once again has a Pacific Island woman at a very senior level within the organization and that SPC’s executive team is back to full strength.
