PPUC GM fired Two board members resignations accepted

President Johnson Toribiong meanwhile accepted the courtesy resignations of two members of the board, — board chairman Kione Isechal and Tarangue Tiger Gillham on Friday.

In a resolution adopted April 10 by the PPUC board, board members said that President Toribiong has demanded the board to take immediate action in replacing Adachi.“The failure to anticipate and take action to ameliorate the maintenance and other operational problems outlined in the Task Force’s reports and  recommendation to President Toribiong stemmed from an ineffective and weak management structure in PPUC and therefore necessary to replace the existing General Manager with someone whose management skills are better suited to immediately deal with the present crisis,” the resolution said.The board said that the power outages in the past few weeks are threatening the “public health, welfare and safety of the people of Palau.”Adachi was replaced by Ken Uyehara as the new PPUC General Manager.The board resolution said that PPUC has failed to provide a “consistent, reliable and sufficient electricity to its costumers.”PPUC last week assured a 24-hour power supply last weekend, however Palau is still under an island wide power rationing since yesterday.Uyehara , under the resolution was instructed to “ take all actions he deems necessary and proper to immediately resolve the ongoing crisis with the power generation and distribution.’President Toribiong in accepting the resignations of Isechal and Gillham said that he made this decision after in consultation with the United States Department of Interior.The two tendered their courtesy resignations on Jan. 16, 2009.One of the Task Force recommendations is to replace the board members.
