DPS spokesman Eric F. David said the operation will be jointly conducted by the department, the Emergency Management Office and the U.S. Navy’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal Detachment Marianas.
The general location of the detonation activity will be at the Laderan Laggun Cliff Line.
David said the only area that will not be closed is Suicide Cliff which will be the main viewing point for the detonation. Public access to Suicide Cliff is allowed only through the road leading up to the Far East Broadcasting antenna for viewing purposes.
DPS will set security posts to enforce and control traffic movement for safety purposes.
DPS is also asking the assistance and understanding of the public as Beach Road-Susupe will be closed from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Saturday.
David said the road closure is to ensure the safety of the participants of the Flame Tree Arts Parade and the Tagaman Triathlon that will take place simultaneously during these hours.
David said the areas affected are the portion of Beach Road from Susupe Mobil Gas Station to the San Jose Mobil Gas Station.
He added that the road between the Garapan fire substation and the Navy Hill/CHC traffic light will be closed from 6 a.m. to 12 noon.
“All motorists are asked to take extra precautionary measures when driving on Beach Road Garapan to Beach Road San Jose as well as from Beach Road Chalan Kanoa to Koblerville as these routes will be used by the participants of the Tagaman Triathlon,” David said.
