How it all started
The company behind the successful restoration of the old lighthouse on Navy Hill is Bibong Corp.
According to company controller John Park, their president and chief executive officer Bongheung Lee visited the island in 2018 and saw the lighthouse for the first time.
Right there and then, Lee saw its potential. He then held several meetings with officials and staff of the Department of Public Lands, which gave him the opportunity to rebuild the lighthouse in October 2019.
“We tried our best to make the improvements but, at the same time, we tried to preserve the historical value of the structure,” Park said. “We started our construction in Jan. 2020 and opened the restaurant on March 12, 2021,” Park said.
He added that starting a business during the Covid-19 pandemic “was really hard, but we have made a lot of progress and everything is getting better.”
Bongheung Lee, for his part, said they want to serve the community by providing good food, entertainment and tourist-oriented events.
“We’re trying to give something back to the community by creating something exciting in an enjoyable restaurant where you can relax,” he added.
