The children were impressed by the presence of such notables as Education Commissioner Rita Sablan, Rep. Tina M. Sablan, Cuki Alvarez, Rep. Heinz S. Hofshneider, Kelvin Fitial and KMCV’s Bob Coldeen.

Other beloved community members who participated included Ronald Arriola of DEQ, Head Start Director Kathleen Yamagata, Laila Boyer of the Marianas Variety, former SAES principal Tobed Smith, retired WSR teacher Antonia Okawa, KoES principal Rizalina Purugganan, Robbie Travilla of TSA and Sia Dela Cruz, SAES PTA president.

The community readers program took place simultaneously with the Octopus Book in which students demonstrated their creativity and writing skills in the many books they created.

Other literacy programs at SAES include poetry and essay contests, Read-A-Thon, Monthly Reader of the Month, MotherRead/FatherRead, and Family Reading Night, which provides an opportunity for parents and children to read together in the school library in the evening.
