Radio New Zealand International reports Taumoepeau will also be accredited to Chile, Cuba, Mexico, and Venezuela, and Tonga’s high commissioner to Canada.
Tongan Prime Minister Feleti Sevele announced the appointment of Sonatane Tuakinamolahi Taumoepeau-Tupou last week.
Sevele said the Tongan cabinet approved the appointment a few weeks ago and Tupou will complete his term in office on May 1.
Taumoepeau will replace Fekita ’Utoikmanu who is leaving to take up her new position as the deputy director general of the Secretariat of the Pacific Community in Suva.
