Fire burns house in Kagman

According to Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Lei Ogumoro, DPS central received a call reporting the fire incident at 6:56 p.m. on April 2.

Ogumoro said units were immediately dispatched to the area.

She said the first suppression truck that arrived at the scene immediately started suppression activity and successfully put out the fire at 7:19 p.m.

No injuries were reported.

Ogumoro said preliminary investigation conducted by  fire prevention and arson investigation personnel showed that the interior of the house was severely burned.

She said investigators found that the fire started in one of the rooms situated in the eastern portion of the house.

Ogumoro said no one was at the house at the time of the fire.

“Investigators have classified this case as arson related, and this case remains under investigation,” Ogumoro said.

The fire division, she added, needs the community’s help in providing any information that will help  identify the suspects involved in this case.

Anyone having information about this crime is urged to call the NMI Crime Stoppers Hotline at 234-7272.

All calls are kept anonymous and no caller ID is used.

A reward of up to $1,000 will be given to anyone with information that leads to an arrest.

For this year, the fire division has responded to over 10 fire incidents in Kagman, with three or four of the incidents involving brush fires, including the three-acre brush fire at the back of Kagman Elementary School last month.
