This year’s celebration was focused on Chinese, Korean, Philippine and Japanese cultures.
SSHS principal Peter Le’au said every four years, they “rotate” the culture that will be highlighted on Cultural Day to give importance to the world’s various cultures.
They have already celebrated American and European cultures in previous years.
Next year, SSHS will showcase Pacific Island culture, Le’au said.
The annual celebration, he added, allows students to learn different cultures and traditions around the world.
“This also fosters respect for each other,” he added.
On Friday, the freshmen students showcased Chinese culture; the sophomores, Korean; the juniors, Filipino; and seniors, Japanese.
Each class had their booths that displayed traditional clothing, dishes and artwork of the culture that they were representing.
The judges of the booth competition were William Dewitt, Ben Word, Anna Elkins, Sudi Napalan and Jerome Taisacan.
Student Council advisers Diann Torres and Diana Lynn Taisacan served as event coordinators.
Each class also performed dance numbers while the Battle of the Bands drew the participation of Pyrrhic Victory, Bumbalicious, Tropical Harmony and MFz.
