According to DPS spokesman Eric F. David, the road will be closed to tour and dive operators, farmers, joggers, bikers and the general public from 12 noon to 3 p.m. on May 29.
David said the detonation operation will be conducted by DPS, the Emergency Management Office and the U.S. Navy’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal Detachment Marianas.
He said the only area that will not be closed off will be Suicide Cliff which will be the main viewing point for the detonation.
“Public access to Suicide Cliff is allowed only through the road leading up to the Far East Broadcasting antenna for viewing purposes,” David said.
He added that DPS will set security posts to enforce and control traffic movement for safety purposes.
The scheduled detonation operation will be the second detonation for this year.
On April 24, 2009, the biggest detonation operation was conducted involving over 10,000 pieces of unexploded ordnance retrieved in a period of six weeks from the Marpi homestead project.
AMPRO president John Scott earlier said there would be more detonation operations due to the large volume of the various U.S. military artillery, projectiles, hand grenades, mortar rounds, and other ordnance scattered on island.
