Adult businesses, particularly those in the Garapan area, will have to move to the new zone designated by the Saipan Zoning Law of 2008 by September this year.
This new zone is on Middle Road from Garapan Central Park to the Msgr. Guerrero intersection in San Jose.
Zoning Board Chairman Henry S. Hofschneider, in an interview yesterday, said they are now looking at the requests they received last month from the businesses seeking for an extension.
“We have to consider those requests,” Hofschneider said.
He added that those seeking extension want to adjust their business plans which the business owners said will take a while.
The owners, Hofschneider said, have to figure out how the new location will affect their businesses.
They will also have to decide whether to continue their businesses.
The adult business operators noted the decreasing number tourists visiting the CNMI and how it has affected their projection.
Hofschneider said before the board would consider the requests, it has to see documents justifying the need for an extension.
Only four of the 25 adult businesses in Garapan tourist district are requesting for an extension.
