Dwight Alexander represented Palau in the consultation. Alexander is the Director f Bureau of Arts and Culture.
The three-day consultation ended on May 15 for the 17 Pacific member states of UNESCO in preparation for the biennial General Conference in Paris on Oct. 6 to 23.The countries attending were Cook Island, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands , Niue, Palau , Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu.In the consultation, it was decided that the Pacific will participate at the UNESCO Youth Forum and that that UNESCO will provide financial assistance to support the airfares of one participant for each Pacific member states in the General conference.Issues also discussed are the presence of a World Heritage Coordinator in the Pacific, advisory positions in the Apia Office and strengthening of the National Commission by way of capacity building through trainings and collaborations and increase of collaboration of programs between the countries.
