Warfield’s wife, Rebecca, an assistant attorney general and the first female commissioner of the Department of Public Safety, has also resigned to work for Guam’s public defender’s office
The Legislative Bureau said it’s now in the process of hiring Mr. Warfield’s replacement.
“With the departure of legal counsel Jeff Warfield, the Legislative Bureau has only two legal counsels for the House of Representatives. The Legislative Bureau is in the process of hiring a third counsel,” a communication from the LB reads.
While the LB is searching for a third counsel, Antonette R. Villagomez, the chief House legal counsel, and Joe Taijeron will divide work between them.
Villagomez will provide legal services to the House Committees on Health Education and Welfare, Ways and Means and Public Utilities, Transportation and Communications, including the Youth Congress and the House leadership.
Taijeron, a former CNMI government prosecutor, will provide legal advice to the House minority.
He will also work with the House Committees on Judiciary and Governmental Operations, Natural Resources, Commerce and Tourism, U.S. and Foreign Relations.
