PAWS has new member from Puerto Rico

Patricia A. Garshak, who has just been on  island for three months now,  was among those who attended the PAWS meeting yesterday.

Garshack, who is originally from Pennsylvania, lived in Puerto Rico before she moved to Saipan.

She pledged to get involved in the local animal advocacy group.

She was with an animal care group that helped transport dogs from Puerto Rico to the U.S. mainland for shelter and possible adoption.

Garshak said there’s no home for animals in Puerto Rico.

Puerto Rico was in the news recently after 80 dogs and cats were thrown from a bridge by a government contractor hired to get rid of stray animals in the U.S. commonwealth.

Garshak said she has a truck and would not mind to pick up the animals that are hit by cars or in need to be transported to a veterinarian.

She said she is willing to do any dirty work that nobody wants to do.

“It’s hard to do but I’ll do it,” Garshak said, adding that she is also willing to lend her five crates to people who want to keep or adopt pets.
