Immigration personnel will get paid until June

Rep. Ray N. Yumul, who chairs the House Committee on Ways and Means, said the “June to September salaries of these immigration personnel are technically unfunded” under the current budget.

Yumul, R-Saipan, said a joint resolution may be adopted to extend personnel appropriations for the affected employees.

Local immigration personnel are under the Attorney General’s Office.

The AG’s office has 113 personnel and 72 of them are directly employed by the Division of Immigration.

Their combined wages for FY 2009 totaled $2.9 million.

“This is a big problem,” Yumul told the Variety and added that a joint resolution supporting an extension period to appropriate the immigration personnel’s salaries is being considered.

Yumul said his committee will urge the administration to include in the supplemental budget the salaries of the immigration personnel.
