‘Iron Chef,’ ‘Chopped’ at WSR

At least 70 teachers and other school staff members participated in the event as part of the health and wellness program of the school for this year.

“Our goal is to promote a healthy lifestyle not only for students but for teachers as role models,” WSR principal Lynette Villagomez said.

The event featured four stations where participants performed their assigned activities.

Station one was for the WSR Iron Chef Challenge while station two was for “Chopped” where participants had to cook dishes with “mystery ingredients.”

WSR vice principal Naomi Nishimura said they chose healthy food items and ingredients for these competitions.

Nashimura said each group was given 30 minutes to complete their food preparation.

The third station was for the SPARK program, which aims to improve the quantity and quality of physical activities for the teachers.

Teachers underwent hands-on training and exercises, using different physical activity equipment.

The SPARK trainers are Jude Loste, Cynthia Pangelinan, Peter Mendiola, Monica Pangelinan and Marii Pangelinan.

At the fourth station, participants performed yoga exercises and ballroom dancing with former WSR teacher Susan Fishman.

Nishimura said they want to promote health and wellness among the teachers “in order for us to continue to work and provide quality education to the children.”

One of the judges for the Iron Chef and “Chopped” events, Public School System nutritionist Hee Jae Lee, said the participants were “very creative in presenting a variety of vegetable dishes with very unique flavors.”

Villagomez said they will evaluate the outcome of this year’s events to further improve next year.
