The United Workers Movement, NMI and the Pilipino Contract Workers Association adopted a joint resolution designating the former Rota teacher as their official representative in the oversight hearing that will be conducted by the chairwoman of the House Subcommittee on Insular Affairs, Oceans and Wildlife, Congresswoman Madeleine Z. Bordallo, D-Gu.
The hearing is on the implementation of the federalization law.
The resolution was signed by United Workers Movement, NMI president Rabby Syed, director Victoria Cepeda, director Adoracion Torres, Pilcowa president Ronnie Doca, board chairman Jun Concillado, director Armando Macatantan, and Director Gaudencia Corilla.
In an interview, Syed said they endorsed Doromal because she can reflect the concerns of the guest workers in the CNMI.
“She has been fighting for guest workers ever since,” he added.
Doromal is now based in Florida.
The other guest worker groups in the CNMI — the Dekada Movement, the Human Dignity Movement and the Coalition of United Workers — want another person to represent them in Washington, D.C.
On May 18, guest workers will hold a peaceful assembly in Garapan to ask for an improved immigration status, Syed said.
He added that the Human Dignity and Dekada movements will join the assembly.
