Next steps for the 2005 KagHS salutatorian

WHEN Laura Bucher first moved to Saipan in Jan. 2002, she felt that her life had been ruined, a media release stated.

But it didn’t take her long to change her tune as she became involved in the academic and social activities of Kagman High School and the greater Saipan community.

Laura played flute in Saipan Pacific Winds, acted with Friends of the Arts, assisted with teaching children at Living Hope of the Nazarene, traveled to Korea with Mayor Tudela, took a leadership role in Teen Talk and graduated from Kagman High School as the 2005 salutatorian.

The past four years Laura has attended Southern Nazarene University in Bethany, Oklahoma.

On Saturday, May 9, she was induced into Phi Delta Lambda honor society and graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in speech communications.

She is to marry Josiah Kyonka of St. Louis, Missouri on June 20 and they will then make their home in Saipan.

Maybe her life wasn’t ruined after all!

Laura is the daughter of Dave and Helen Ann Bucher of Kagman III.
