Guerrero-Borja team shifts priority to public health

In an interview, Deleon Guerrero said the problems at the Commonwealth Health Center are getting more serious and the central government should pay more attention to them.

The former senator said the departure of doctors and other medical professionals from CHC poses a great danger to the people of the CNMI.

An area with the same population as the CNMI’s should need at least 40 doctors, but the commonwealth’s lone hospital has 16 only.

Deleon Guerrero said he talked with patients and their families who recounted their experiences with CHC.

Their stories, he said, were disturbing.

Deleon Guerrero said his administration would promote a regional healthcare system to provide local people with  access to high quality, yet low-cost healthcare.

“Our administration would recruit and retain highly qualified and U.S. certified doctors, specialists and technicians and develop a healthcare system that will address serious health problems.”
