NMC students group has 1 officer left

As mandated by the ASNMC constitution, Miles Rodriguez, the treasurer, assumed the presidency  vacated by Mereb.

Mereb and Lena Wabol, the secretary, stepped down  due to “constitutional” issues raised by the NMC leadership, while Jose Tudela, the vice president, left his post to concentrate on his studies.

The officers are required by their group’s constitution to maintain a certain grade point average.

Their term is supposed to end in July when the association elects its new officers.

In an interview, Rodriguez said she has no problem administering the ASNMC because she is supported by the Office of Student Activities and Leadership and NMC President Carmen Fernandez.

Rodriguez, a nursing student, said Student Services Dean Janice Tenorio is very supportive.

“We are highly confident in Miles’s leadership and academic abilities,” Tenorio said, adding that Rodriguez has “already been taking an active part and doing a great job in representing the students in the various governance groups at NMC.”

Rodriguez said she will run for vice president or president in the next ASNMC election.

“I plan to continue upholding my duty of representing the student body in various college committees and improving student life on campus,” she said.

The ASNMC will post online the nomination applications of candidates.

Introducing amendments to their constitution, like the creation of a legislative body and a new criteria for  officers, are included in the agenda that she will pursue, Rodriguez said.

She said she has been working alongside with the Office of Student Activities and Leadership staff in planning for student activities for the summer semester.

“I urged all the students to take part in all of our activities as well as other NMC events,” she added.

Rodriguez is one of the top three students of the graduating class of 2007.

She is a National Honor Society scholar, an outstanding female graduate, and the JROTC superior cadet medalist of 2007.

She is the Nursing Club vice president, a Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society member and NMC Legendary Guild (Library Club) member.

She was president of the National Honor Society in 2006-2007, JROTC company commander in 2005-2006, and Marianas High School chief editor in 2007.
