WSR’s top students: Gariguez, Mateo

Board of Education Vice Chairman Herman T. Guerrero, WSR principal Lynette Villagomez and vice principal Naomi Nishimura helped give out the awards during the ceremony held at the multi-purpose center in Susupe.

The second highest honor, the Principal’s Award, was given to Angelica G. Mateo, who also received the Outstanding Achievement Awards in Science, Math, Social Studies and Chamorro.

She likewise received the Presidential Education Excellence Award, the Perfect Attendance Award, and the Highest Average Award in Class.

Gariquez collected at least 10 awards, which included the Outstanding Achievement Awards in Science, Math, Social Studies, Chamorro and Language Arts.

She also received the Perfect Attendance Award, the Presidential Educational Excellence Award, the Citizenship Award and the Presidential Achievement Award.

Gariquez parents, Mariano Gariquez and Loida Bocatot, said they expected their daughter to do well in school.

“She is a consistent ‘A’ student since her first grade,” they said.

Virgilio and Arlene Mateo, parents of Angelica Mateo, said they were very proud of their daughter.

This year’s Kingfisher Award was given to Tracy Lou D. Limes while the Peace Builder Award went to Joelyn Katherin Sablan.

Besides Gariguez and Mateo, the rest of the top 10 students were Tracy Lou D. Limes, Mobtasim Alam, Roxanne C. Artates, Joseph S. Kileleman, Antonette Lipi K. Kapileo, Catherine A. Cabalquinto, Anne Genevie D. Mercado and Mary Joy L. Aglubat.

There were also five students from each sixth grade homeroom class who were commended for earning the highest grade point average.

They are, from Claire Barcinas’ class — Limes, Artates, Kapileo, Mercado and Sean Benedict C. Palma; from Jude Loste’s class — Gariquez, Aglubat, Luisa Marie Camacho, Toshio John Takayama and Analey D. Demapan; from Melissa Dickinson’s class — Mateo, Catherine Cabalquinto, Cherry Ann Guevarra, Rebecca Albiento and Gina Rudolph; from Phyllis Ain’s class — Alam, Kileleman, Alexis Relatado, Joelyn Sablan and Bohyun Mun.

In her message, school principal Lynette Villagomez reminded students that they will confront more challenges and changes as they pursue their education in high school but “each of you are capable to overcoming the challenges.”

“We encourage you to do your very best despite the challenges — we know you can shine,” she said.
