On May 26, the change of command ceremony was held on the RHS campus to honor the accomplishments of the outgoing commander C/Lt. Col. John Ayuyu and to officially welcome the incoming battalion commander for school year ‘09-‘10, C/Lt. Col. Elisa DLC. Taisacan.
C/Maj. Marcillia Taimanao was appointed as the battalion executive officer.
The ceremony also paid tribute to the men and women who are serving in our armed forces.
The Buck Battalion Organization Day was held on Friday, June 5, at the Rota East Harbor.
JROTC cadets were provided with an end of school year morale booster that included volleyball, swimming and a barbeque.
This event was a tremendous success because of the generosity and support of the RHS principal, Sharlene Manglona, RHS staff, and the community.
Special acknowledgment was extended to Patricia Calvo, the EMS, and Balbina Tasiacan and family.
Special visits were made by Board of Education member Tanya King, Commissioner of Education Rita Sablan, and Associate Commissioner of Curriculum and Instruction Jackie Quitugua.
Twenty-five cadets assisted and participated in the saint procession on Sunday, June 7.
This event was hosted by the San Franscisco De Borja Parish Council and the Filipino Association.
The Buck Battalion would like to thank Frank Calvo for extending the invitation to the cadets.
On June 9, the Buck Awards presentation was held at the RHS gymnasium and was attended by the entire student population and faculty as well as parents and community members.
This ceremony recognized cadets who excelled in this great citizenship program.
The faculty and parents assisted in awarding the medals to the cadets.
Thirty-nine awards were presented and ranged from the Cadet Command Superior Cadet Award to the Citizenship Award.
Special thanks were given to the many non- profit organizations and agencies who contributed the awards to the cadets.
Elvira Manglona, RHS faculty member and former RHS graduate, was the keynote speaker and gave an impassioned speech about the importance of believing in oneself and the significance of perseverance.
She articulated the many obstacles and hurdles she encountered in trying to achieve her goals. However, through family support and determination she was able to excel.
The Buck Battalion is preparing for SY 09-10 and will be involved in numerous activities to support the community and the school.
The mission of “preparing young people to become better citizens” is the driving force of the JROTC program.
