Torres, in an interview last Friday, said he gave the Public Health secretary until this week to reply and vowed he won’t stop asking questions until the department comes up with answers.
In his letter to Villagomez last Thursday, Torres said his committee does not discourage working with private medical clinics but “it is unacceptable for our community hospital to refuse service to our people” and tell them to seek medical assistance at private clinics.
Torres told Villagomez that even patients with appointments are given the run-arounds and are not being checked or examined.
It is also unacceptable, Torres said, for CHC to assign one doctor to a 12-hour shift.
He urged Public Health to work closely with his committee “to ensure that CHC operates truly as a hospital for the commonwealth.”
