Garnering a total score of 941 points, Peter Bosner and Lorraine Liwiski of Car No. 11 topped this year’s car rally that attracted 16 entrants.
At the awards ceremony held at Oleai Beach Bar & Grill Sunday, Bosner and Liwiski received $200 and a gift certificate for an hour of photo session with ace photographer Hideo Honda.
Bosner told BRM, “It was a great, real fun. It was nice to meet a bunch of people from Saipan and see some sights we have never seen before.” He said car rally master Susan Marchitti did a great job in setting it up.
His navigator, Liwiski, wasn’t expecting their team would win. “It was a lot of fun and I am totally shocked that we won first prize. We were arguing the entire time whether or not we got the answers right, whether or not the time was right. It was a lot of fun and we’ll do it again.”
Car No. 13 with Koblerville residents Andrew Moses as driver and Anna Manibusan as navigator finished second with 932 points. Moses and Manibusan won $150 and a Samsung keyboard from I-teck.
In an interview after the awards ceremony, Moses said, “It was a fun experience and I really enjoyed it. I got to see smaller villages of the island. It was a good challenge.”
Asked by BRM if they will join again next year, Moses said he will and will try to win it next time.
Another surprise winner is the Bowen couple composed of NMC Cooperative Research Extension and Education Service (CREES) agriculture consultant Lee Bowen and his wife Kathleen who came in third with 924 points. They won $100 and a mobile phone with a $20 load courtesy of Docomo Pacific.
Bowen said, “I think Susan did an excellent job with establishing everything she had done. And any mistake she may have made I think she did on purpose because she made us think. But otherwise it is an excellent thing and should be done again in the future.”
