Acting Lt. Gov. Eloy S. Inos presided the meeting of the candidates at the Saipan World Resort yesterday.
For Saipan’s two Senate seats, the ruling party’s candidates are former Rep. Ana S. Teregeyo and Labor Deputy Secretary Cinta M. Kaipat.
In Precinct 1, the House candidates are former Gov. Froilan C. Tenorio, Vicente Cabrera, Antonia Tudela, Canise Taitano and Ben Cepeda.
Rep. Raymond Palacios, who is seeking second term, will run with Ralph S. Demapan in Precinct 2.
The slate in Precinct 3 consists of David Maratita, Jesus Elameto, former Rep. Felicidad Ogumoro, Henry Rabauliman and Edmund Villagomez.
Former Republican House candidate Sylvestre Iguel will be teaming up with Thomas Camacho in Precinct 4, while Ray Basa and David Quitugua will run in Precinct 5.
Former Senate President Juan S. Demapan will be the Covenant Party’s candidate for Saipan mayor while Arts Council’s Ramona Rebuenog will run for Northern Islands mayor.
Gov. Benigno R. Fitial, in his press conference on Thursday, said he expects more Republican and Democratic Party members to switch to the Covenant Party ahead of the Nov. 7 elections.
But he refused to name names.
Fitial said the Covenant Party has at least 2,000 members and he expects more people to join.
“We have a lot of supporters. You’ll see them in our rallies. We currently have 2,000 [members] but that’s just an overly conservative estimate,” he added.
