Power outages hit some areas over the weekend

On Sunday, Airai residents were affected by the outage due to the unscheduled mechanical services to one of the engines in Aimeliik Power Plant. The power however was restored at 9 p.m. Sunday. The power lasted only for at  least an hour in some areas in Airai.

In the Babeldaob area yesterday, there was a 4-hour power interruption due to the high power load demand at both Aimeliik Power Plant and Malakal Power Plant. The high power load affected the areas of Keukl and Despedall. The power outage lasted from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.PPUC is continuing with its maintenance work that is why commercial customers are requested to assist PPUC by utilizing their own power source this week until engine repairs has been addressed. The commercial customers are asked to be on their own during the peak hours throughout the day and up until 9 or 10 pm in the evening. The maintenance work is being done  to fully supply all residential, commercial and government power demand.Presently the PPUC Aimeliik and Malakal Power Plants are supplying 10, 350 megawatt with Ngerulmud back-up generator to assist in supplying power to the Babeldaob East Coast and the Palau capitol building in case there will be a prolonged maintenance service to be conducted.
