Kang tops NMC golf

The Korean earned a net of 72 besting over 100 other amateur golfers and won $500 for winning the first place.

Adam Hardwicke ended up with a net of 74 to win the second place and brought with him $300.

Jeff Taylor settled for third with a net of 75 and won $200.

In the A Flight competition, Leo Ganacias, Asterio Tawanpiy and Frederico Flores were in a three-way tie, each eking out a net of 74.

Ben Duenas led the B Flight with scoring a net of 80, followed by Ken Kalen, 81 and Fr. Manny Corcuera, 82.

John Terlaje topped the C Flight with 80, John Matsumoto finished 84 and Juan Reberenoz, 85.

Retired Judge Edward Manibusan finished 72 to top the Seniors Flight, followed by Tony Satur who netted 76, then, Juan Babauta, 76.

About 140 golfers played in the tournament, exceeding the foundation’s target of 120.

There were also more than 30 volunteers who helped. Among them were NMC students and staff and some members of the community.

NMC has raised about $70,000 in Educational Tax Credit donations.

“We are extremely happy with the turn out at the golf tournament,” NMC Foundation president Ben Babauta said.

“Of course, we are thankful for the golfers’ continued support year after year and look forward to seeing them on the golf course again next year,” he added.

Aside from cash, the prizes also included round trip tickets to Cairns, Manila, or Palau on Continental Airlines.

Nobody made it in the Hole-in-one for which $25,000 cash and a 2010 Mazda 3 waited to be won.

However, many raffle prizes which include complimentary rooms at hotels, restaurant gift certificates, rounds of golf, and other prizes were awarded to the golfers.

All proceeds from the tournament will be used to support NMC’s educational programs and services.

The major sponsors of the said event are Pacific Islands Club, IT&E, Chong’s Corporation, Dial Rent To Own, Laolao Bay Golf Resort, Luen Fung, Saipan Sunset Cruise, and Pacific Trading Company.
