During a meeting last night, 15 golfers from Refaluwasch Golf Association, Saipan Golfers Association, Exclusive Golfers Association and Rota Golf Club were listed to be interested in joining the try out.
RGA President Jordam Kosam in an interview said the CNMI national golf team will be composed of a maximum of five members and a minimum of two.
In the tryouts scheduled on June 27 at the Coral Ocean Point Resort and at the Marianas Country Club on June 28, Kosam said the five golfers who will get the lowest gross will be drafted to the team.
The Northern Marianas Amateur Sports Association, he added will subsidize the travel cost for the team and for the rest of the needed money, the organizers will hold fundraising events.
It is not the first time that the Pacific Mini Games will have a golf event.
In last night’s meeting, Kosam informed interested individuals of the eligibility to part of the team. A competitor must be U.S. citizen and resident of the CNMI for a total of five years at any time in the competitor’s life.
Kosam encourages all golfers from Rota, Tinian and Saipan to take the advantage of the open try outs.
During the tryouts, scores will be based on lowest total gross for the two-day rounds.
Participants will hit from the blue tee and the US Golf Association rules will govern.
Some of those who have aired interest in joining the team are Jess Wabol, Adam Hardwicke, Jess Seman, Ralph Yumul, Ned Norita, Edward Manibusan and some members of the Rota Golf Club.
