Korean community center opens tomorrow

The Korean Community Center, formerly the Neo-Fashion garment factory behind the Department of Labor in San Antonio, signifies the fulfillment of the dream of over 3,000 Korean citizens residing in the CNMI, according to Korean Association president Park Jun-Soo.

Park said they met their target of finishing the new center this year.

“It is ready to be used, and the Korean Association will finally have a place to call their own,” he said.

The Korean Community Center was designed to have 13 classrooms and will soon be used as a venue to teach the Korean culture and language for both Koreans and non-Koreans in the CNMI.

The center also has an auditorium, a library, an office, storage units, a cafeteria and kitchen, basketball court, and a spacious parking space.

Park earlier said the funding for the construction and renovation of the community center came from the Korean Association Committee.

He said the Korean community in the CNMI had been looking for a place to convert to a one-stop center for a long time.

Expected to attend the grand opening are Gov. Benigno R. Fitial, Lt. Gov. Eloy S. Inos, Guam-based Korean Consul General Lee Chong-il, Saipan Mayor Juan B. Tudela, members of the Korean Community Association and other guests.
