Obakrairur comes home

Obakrairur remains will arrive in Palau today at 8 a.m. and a state funeral will follow after at the Olbiil Era Kelulau Rotunda in Ngerulmud , Melekeok.

Today will be the national day of mourning in respect of the death of Obakrairur. Last week President Johnson Toribiong issued Presidential Proclamation No. 09-03.In that proclamation, the president directed that all flags regularly flown within the jurisdiction of Palau and flown at the country’s embassies and consulates in other countries will be hoisted at half mast on Tuesday.Obakrairur is survived by his father Demei Obakrairur and former Speaker of Ngardmau Legislature, his mother Florence Kambalang.The fallen soldier was born and raised in Palau after he graduated from Ibobang High School in 2000 he went to Hawaii.“The people and the government of Palau mourn and pay tribute  to the passing of this brave Palauan soldier who made the ultimate sacrifice in the fight against terrorism which threatens regional and international peace and security,”  the proclamation said. Obakrairur was a highly decorated soldier having received numerous awards and decorations including the Army Commendation Medal, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, NATO Medal and Combat Infantry Badge.He also graduated from Combat Life Savers Course and Warrior Leader Course.
