THE Northern Mariana Islands Football Association is sending the members of the CNMI men and women’s teams to Guam on Friday, Feb. 18, for a week-long training camp.
The training will include friendly matches between the CNMI and Guam men’s teams.
According to CNMI head coach Michiteru Mita, “Our players are working hard to try to catch up with international football standards and play in [Asian Football Confederation] tournaments this year…. This training camp will be very helpful and will allow us to see where we are now. We will evaluate the team and then plan what we need to further work on,” Mita said.
As for the CNMI women’s teams, “they have been working and training diligently since our last training camp in 2021,” CNMI women’s national team coach Angie Ito said.
“Although we’ve had a few setbacks due to the increase of positive [Covid-19] cases in the community, the affected players have returned to the field after the completion of their mandatory isolation. They continue to improve individually and as a team,” Ito added.
“Training camps are vital. They help us evaluate where we are currently with team chemistry, skills, and techniques. The training camp on Guam is also a reward to players who have committed their time and hearts to the team for the past year.”
The CNMI women U18 and women teams will also play friendly matches against their Guam counterparts, Ito said.
