The 2009 President’s Day 5K Walk and Run

Vice President Kerai Maruir came in early for the walk that started at the Palau National Track and Field and to the old President’s office and back while President Johnson Toribiong arrived in time for the awarding of the essay contest winners. The President gave an inspiring speech after the early morning contest that started out on remembering that this day was also the birthday of the first president of the Republic of Palau, Haruo I. Remeliik. He also mentioned on his brief verbal communication that the idea on the cost of wanting social equality and liberty would be vigilance. “The price of gaining freedom and democracy is vigilance,” said the President. The first one hundred attendees of the event were provided with a nice memorabilia t’shirt of the celebrated occasion while others were given different colors of towels that hold hotline numbers of the ministry of health’s program on fighting the AH1 N1 virus on the island. Runners and walkers were also treated with fruits and sandwiches for a light breakfast.
