“The report contains additional evidence of the college’s efforts to sustain many of the program review and planning initiatives that it began last year,” NMC President Carmen Fernandez said.
Team recommendation 1 deals with integrating planning, program review, and budgeting, while team recommendation 2 is about the institutionalization of the program review process.
Fernandez said their report also contains the 2009 update to the key performance indicators and benchmarks first compiled in 2005.
These, she said, “demonstrate the college’s use of data collected over a period of years to track and measure our efforts to carry out the college’s mission.”
She said key performance indicators measure student goal attainment, workforce placement, retention, degree completion, certification/licensure pass rates, and demonstration of critical literacy skills.
For each indicator, she said, there is a specific performance standard, the institutional action performed to measure the college’s efforts in meeting the standard, and the next steps involved in meeting or exceeding the standards.
On Thursday, during its special meeting, NMC’s board of regents voted to accept the May 29, 2009 Supplemental Show Cause Report prepared by Fernandez and her management team.
The report was then transmitted to the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges.
Fernandez said the commission has already acknowledged and recognized the work that the college has done to comply with accreditation requirements.
The college, she added, remains accredited during the show cause period — all academic credits and degrees from NMC are accredited and will be transferable to other accredited institutions.
“We are extremely proud of the work placed forth by students, faculty, staff, and the board members to complete the May 29, 2009 Supplemental Report,” Fernandez said.
The report was also approved by the college council, which includes representatives from students, faculty and staff.
